The three numbers that decide your income

  1. Your price. Doubling it halves the sites you need. If you are not sure what to charge, the website pricing calculator works it out from the job and your state.
  2. Your close rate. How many pitches say yes. Picking the right trade helps — the niche finder shows which ones in your city need sites most.
  3. Your care plan. Small monthly fees that stack. After a year or two, they can be most of the income.

Where the pitches come from

The businesses most likely to buy are the ones with no website at all, or one that is broken on a phone. Find them free with the businesses without websites finder and the bad website finder, or download a list with the lead generator.

Questions

How much money can you make selling websites?+

It is sites sold times price, plus care plans. Four $1,500 sites a month is $6,000; with each client on a $50 monthly plan, a year of that adds $2,400 a month that arrives without selling anything. The calculator above runs your own numbers.

How many clients does a freelance web designer need?+

To match the median US web developer salary of about $93,000 a year (BLS, May 2025), you need about $7,800 a month — 6 sites at $1,500, or fewer once care plans start adding up.

How many businesses do I need to pitch to land one client?+

It varies with the trade, the price and the pitch, so track your own and put it in the calculator. Showing a finished site of their own business, instead of describing one, is the biggest lever: they see what they would be buying.

Is selling websites to local businesses still worth it?+

Yes, in most places a large share of independent businesses still have no website or a broken one. The free finders on SitesGen count them in any city, by trade.

The hard part is the pitches. Make them land.

SitesGen finds the businesses, builds each a finished site from its own photos and reviews, and writes the message. A pitch with their own website in it gets answered.
